about

Written about an experience we had seeing a bar fight in a dive bar called the Porthole Pub in Ocean Shores Washington. This song is told from the point of view of the person that started the fight.

lyrics

Country Karaoke

It’s been several months now since I could find some work
It’s enough to make a man feel like he has no worth
I try to be a good man in most things that I do
That is why I’m so surprised by what I did to you
I tried to drink away my problems for just one night
Went out to sing some country karaoke not to fight
But I could not afford their beer Had my own on the porch
When you called me out on this it burned me like a torch

I went out for a night of Karaoke and wound up in the pokey
And I don’t even know the reasons why
I know there was a scuffle and I caused all the trouble
And now all I can do is hang my head and cry

A couple minutes later I went back inside
My anger only burning hotter since you hurt my pride
It’s then I saw you singing ripped the mic from your hand
Threw it in your face and watched as the blood ran
The last thing I remember as the cops put on the cuffs
Is yelling from the parking lot about god knows what
And now I’m sitting in this cell with my head in my hands
How I let it get this far I’ll never understand

Chorus

I went out for a night of Karaoke and wound up in the pokey
And I don’t even know the reasons why
I know there was a scuffle and I caused all the trouble
And now all I can do is hang my head and cry

What will my family think about all the shame
this will surely bring down upon our family name
They’ve tried hard to be patient but patience can be stretched
Until it breaks I hope they haven’t reached that point yet
But people love to gossip and this is a small town
I’m sure it won’t take any time for this to get around
I wonder when this happens can I still show my face
Or will I always feel like the family disgrace.
